Obituary

Hazel Landrith Mason, age 94, widow of James Lee Mason, of Summerville, SC, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Hazel Landrith Mason will be Monday morning, April 10, 2017 at 11 o’clock in Return Baptist Church, 733 Return Church Rd, Seneca, SC, with burial to follow in Oconee Memorial Park, 1923 Blue Ridge Blvd, Seneca, SC 29672. The family will receive friends at Return Baptist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service from 10 until 10:45. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American College of the Building Arts Scholarship Fund for Hazel and James Mason, 649 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29403.

Hazel was born January 27, 1923 in Seneca, SC, the daughter of the late Walter Landrith
and Ethel Powell Landrith.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann Copelan (Roy) of Columbia, and Jane Broadwater (Colby) of Charleston and her brother, Horace Landrith (Shirley) of Seneca, four grandchildren, Rebecca Burdette (George), Lindsay Copelan and Marianne Copelan, Colby Broadwater IV (Sarah); three great grandchildren, Hadley and Larkin Burdette and Evelyn Broadwater. Hazel was predeceased by her husband, parents and her brother, Dr. Harold Landrith.

Hazel was a graduate of Seneca High School and Greenville General School of Nursing with a Registered Nursing degree. Upon graduation, she was assigned to US Marine Hospital in Savannah, GA, during World War II. After marriage, she was a nurse at the Dorchester County Hospital and the Summerville Presbyterian Home. She was a member of the National Camellia Society and South Carolina Nurses Association and had a passion for gardening, antiques and caring for others. She was an active member of Summerville Baptist Church and Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia where she was a member of the senior choirs, and was active in her Senior Adult Sunday School classes.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Summerville Presbyterian Home staff for their wonderful care during her residency.
