Julia Smith

An ordinary woman died on August 12, 2017. Julia Smith, 85, of Laurel, Delaware. Julia was born to Edward and Pearl LeCates of Delmar and was a beloved only child. She was the light of their lives and in their later years, Julia cared for them just as tenderly as they had cared for her. Julia was married briefly to James Richard Leether and had a son, Ed Leether, before marrying Charles Smith Jr. and taking on the impossible task of raising his 5 children, Phil, Donna, Mike and twin girls, Pat and Pam. How she managed to work a full-time job and run a household, all the while never losing her famous smile, is still a mystery.

Julia brightened up any room she was in and if you heard laughter, chances are it was her with an admiring group of listeners surrounding her. Her grandchildren Jim, Kristy, Scott, Sara, Jonathan, Tyler, Mark, Julie, Joe, and great-grandchildren Autumn and Logan, will remember a woman who always had an open mind and an open heart, and her adored Maltese, Sophie, will miss her nighttime snuggling. You won’t read about Julia in your history books. You won’t hear about her on the local news. To the world she was an ordinary woman. But to everyone who knew her and loved her? She was extraordinary.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury, MD. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Wicomico Memorial Park.
