Obituary

Dora Lee “Mickey” Mixson Kraus, 87, of the Charleston, SC area, widow of William W. Kraus, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 12 o’clock noon in Parks Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Macedonia. Visitation will be from 10:30 until the time of service at Parks Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407.

Dora was born January 5, 1930 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Junie and Leila Mixson. She worked as a Bookkeeper for Eckerd’s, Bird and Son, Cindy Lee’s, and Landmark Construction. She was also a homemaker. She loved flowers and birdwatching, as well as camping and fishing. Dora also enjoyed bowling, cooking, and attending church at Deer Park Baptist. At 16, she married a Navy Sailor in Charleston before moving to California, where she experienced all that life had to offer. She moved to North Augusta, SC to raise her child, and lived there for 17 years. They moved back to the Charleston area in 1969.

Dora leaves behind her son, Walter W. Kraus (Marcia) of Moncks Corner; sisters, Margaret Wade, Dorothy Jordan, both of Hanahan, and Frances Mills of Macedonia; sister-in-laws, Ann Mixson, and Rosalie Mixson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to the love of her life, her husband, William “Bill” Kraus, she is predeceased by her brothers, William Mixson, John Mixson, and Fred Mixson.
