Mr. James Lyda, Jr., husband of Doris Gallman Lyda, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2017. He was 88.

Funeral Services will be Monday morning, October 2, 2017 at 11 o’clock in Parks Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5 until 7 o’clock at Parks Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Goose Creek U.M.C.,142 Red Bank Road, Goose Creek, SC 29445.

Mr. Lyda was born in Fairforest, SC on Friday, January 18, 1929, son of the late James M. Lyda and Alice Burgin Lyda. He graduated from Boiling Springs High School and enlisted in the US Navy on January 21, 1947. He spent the next 20 years in the Navy at various ports and in Washington DC, at which time he had the honor to serve under Admiral Rickover. He retired in 1966 in Goose Creek where he resided with his wife, and operated D & K Pizza Restaurant for the next 18 years. Jim was known for his love of sports, especially girl’s and women’s softball. He enjoyed coaching and supporting his great-grandchildren up until his death.

Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Lyda; two children, Deborah Lyda Bennett (Paul), and Myron Kyle Lyda; five grandchildren, Kendra Lynn Bennett, Brian Samuel Bennett (Jennifer), Brandon Eric Lee (Arizona), Rochelle Nichole Lyda, and Kayla Gayle Lyda; three great-grandchildren, Bryson James Bennett, Ansley Katherine Bennett, and Jayden Lynn Bennett, all of Summerville; sister-in-law, Hazel Gallman Seith Horley (James) of Cross; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by all of his siblings.
